ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint narratives that chronicle our current history. The visual vocabulary starts with the human figure. Ideas are introduced through the symbolic use of clothing and props.

Our reality has become littered with surreal events. Despite the lessons of history, we seem to mirror the past. My observations of this fact, and the unchanging qualities of human nature, are the catalyst for my figurative paintings.

BIOGRAPHY

Lidia C. Hasenauer is the daughter of Italian immigrants. When she was a toddler her family moved from the east coast and she grew up in Southern California. She has been drawing most her life. Lidia has always been interested in telling stories through her art.

Creative storytelling started professionally with a brief career as a graphic designer which utilized her compositional and illustration skills. Lidia discovered her  love for oil painting in her late twenties and became focused on the figure and landscapes. As she raised her family in Santa Cruz, CA, she continued to paint in her home studio. Over the years Lidia has exhibited art in Santa Cruz and nationally. She has published two books featuring her artworks.

Currently, when she is not in her art studio, she is working on theatrical productions as a costume design assistant. Creating in the costume shop aligns with her interest in telling a story with the human figure and utilizing symbolism through clothing and props.
